These are the official Directions
Insert toothpicks into tops of strawberries.
Melt chocolate and shortening in the top of a double boiler over
simmering water, stirring frequently and scraping down the sides with a
rubber spatula to avoid scorching. Holding strawberries by toothpicks, dip into chocolate mixture.
Turn strawberries upside down and insert toothpick into Styrofoam
or simply place strawberries on a sheet of wax paper. Allow to cool
completely.
Ingredients
Original recipe makes 3 cups
1 pound fresh strawberries with leaves
8 ounces milk chocolate chips
1 tablespoon shortening
However, I like to do things a little easier and don't have a double
boiler so I use the microwave and temper the chocolate by melting it for
about 4 minutes at defrost or 50%, stir, and finish melting until the
chocolate is very soft (another couple minutes). I also use dark
chocolate morsels as they are a little healthier. The chocolate sets up
very quickly so you can zap it again (30 sec) if you work too slow.
Just saying.
